Description of Classes
Reading, Writing & Math for Kindergarten - Grade 1
Early primary skills include phonics, beginning reading, spelling, penmanship, writing stories and math. Manipulatives are used in understanding math concepts.
Reading, Writing & Math for Grades 2 - 3
This class concentrates on the development of reading skills, using phonics and sight words. Creative writing includes using the correct spelling, punctuation and grammar in the editing process. Math skills include addition, subtraction, regrouping, multiplication and simple division, and telling time.
Writing & Math for Grades 4 - 5
In writing, students learn to edit their stories or essays as they apply rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling. During math the focus is on multiplication, long division, decimals, and fractions.
Writing & Math for Grades 6 - 8
The concentration in writing is on developing a five-paragraph paper, story, or report using grammar and spelling rules in the editing process. The goal is to make the final product clear and interesting to the reader. During math the focus is on divsion, fractions, decimals, percents and beginning algebra.
Cursive Writing and Keyboarding for Grades 4 - 7
This class concentrates on learning cursive writing and also keyboarding without looking at the keys while writing.
All classes are very individualized. Students may be working at different levels of difficulty within the same class. Parents and students may also request that certain work be done during the class. For example, a student may request a review of rounding off numbers to the nearest whole number. The class is designed to focus on the needs of the students. Penmanship and cursive writing is encouraged at all levels.
